Today felt like one of those rare days where the universe throws you a small parade… and only you realize it’s happening.
My son got accepted into the college he wanted.
The program he wanted.
Not the backup plan.
Not the “well, maybe this will work.”
The one he actually hoped for.
And if you’re a parent, you know that moment hits differently.
Because when your kids win, you remember every step that got them there.
The late nights.
The doubts.
The times you wondered if you were doing any of this right.
You remember the homework battles, the rides, the money spent, the guidance, the arguments, and the quiet encouragements that sometimes felt like they disappeared into thin air.
Then one day…
You get the acceptance.
And suddenly all those invisible moments stack up into something real.
A door opens.
And you realize something else.
This isn’t just his accomplishment.
It’s a family victory.
The kind no one applauds on a stage.
But every parent feels deep in their bones.
As if that wasn’t enough for one day…
I also had two people compliment my book.
Not the polite “that’s nice” kind.
The kind where you can tell someone actually read it and felt something.
For a writer, that’s oxygen.
You spend months or years putting words together, wondering if they matter to anyone outside your own head.
Then someone looks at you and says something kind about it.
And for a moment you think:
Maybe I’m not crazy for chasing this.
Today wasn’t loud.
No fireworks.
No marching band.
Just two quiet reminders that sometimes the seeds you plant actually grow.
One kid stepping into his future.
One book finding its way into someone’s hands.
And one mom sitting here tonight feeling something rare and wonderful.
Proud.
Mom Scoreboard Today
Kid gets into the college he wanted.
Writer gets told her words mattered.
I’m counting that as a win.
